Welcome to Love, Joy, and Languages

Hi, everyone, and welcome to my little nook of the internet – Love, Joy, and Languages. First, allow me to introduce myself. So, I’m Heidi Lovejoy (she/her). I’m a 30-something mother of two, Kentucky-raised lover of math, and adventurous wanderer finally discovering my truest self through the joy of learning languages. I’ve been learning Italian for the last four years as of this writing, but I’m starting to introduce German as my main focus and also Polish on the side.

While I’m super proud of the progress I’ve made with Italian, it hasn’t come easily. As I’ve recently discovered, my first couple years of Italian study was rife with all the standard rookie mistakes when it comes to learning a second language. This time around, I intend to throw all the stigmas, lies, and commercial product promises out the window and follow my own path. The path that works for me. I’m creating this space as a place for me to document my overall language learning process, review mistakes I’ve made and how I’m overcoming them, and really hold myself accountable. If no one else ever reads this, at least I’m putting my intentions, achievements, and stumbling blocks out into the world and letting my language acquisition energy flow.

Like each of you, I live at the intersection of many roads. So, while this blog is mainly about my language learning journey, I intend to bring my full self and discuss those crossroads where my language life meets womanhood, motherhood, spirituality, anxiety, social responsibility, and all the other spaces in which I find myself in the world. I hope you’ll join me on this journey. I hope to inspire you and be inspired by you. But most of all, I just want to have fun learning languages!
